Gem Sprites: What's Released, What Isn't, and How We Know

Updated 3 August 2026 · 5 min read

One Gem sprite is obtainable right now — Gem Llama, from Relic Chests. The other eight are not released, and Epic has not confirmed a date for them.

You can get exactly one Gem sprite today: Gem Llama, which arrived with v41.30 on 30 July 2026 and is reported to drop from Relic Chests. The other eight Gems are not obtainable. Some players briefly held them during a Sprite Hunt rift anomaly, but those copies were disabled. A wider release date circulates online; Epic has not published one.

What a Gem sprite is

Gem is the eighth and newest variant line, after Normal, Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, Holofoil, Cube and Quack. Like every other variant, a Gem is a re-skin of an existing sprite that keeps that sprite's own passive ability and adds a variant bonus on top.

The bonus is widely reported as reduced fall damage — around 30% — stacked on whatever the base sprite already does. We list that figure in the dex because it is the only description available, but it is worth being clear about where it comes from.

Status of every Gem variant

Nine sprites have a Gem variant. One of them is in the game.

Quackadex excludes unreleased variants from your completion percentage, so the eight unreleased Gems do not count against you. Gem Llama does count, because it is genuinely obtainable.

The one Gem you can get

Gem Llama is reported to come from Relic Chests, with additional chances from Sprite and Rare Chests around Golden Grove. It behaves like any other released variant: find it in a chest, extract it, and it is yours permanently. It can be mastered and resummoned normally.

If you are hunting it, the practical advice is the same as for any Relic Chest sprite: Relic Chests are contested, so land with a plan to leave rather than a plan to win the landing.

The Gems that were disabled

Before v41.30, a rift anomaly during Sprite Hunt let some players obtain Gem sprites that were not meant to be available. Epic has a support article covering this. Those sprites were disabled: affected players could not use them and could not resummon them.

This is the part of the story that is actually confirmed, and it matters for two reasons. First, it is Epic acknowledging that Gems beyond Llama exist. Second, it establishes that early acquisition did not stick — nobody kept a working Gem out of that window.

We do not know whether Epic intends to compensate, restore, or ignore those early copies. The support article, as we read it, addresses the disabling and not what happens afterwards.

The 6 August date

A release date of 6 August 2026 for the remaining Gems is circulating widely. It appears in leaker posts, in games-media articles that cite those posts, and in AI-generated aggregator pages that cite the articles. We have not found it in a patch note, a blog post, an official social account, or any other Epic-controlled surface.

That does not make the date wrong. Leaked dates for Fortnite content are often correct, because they are frequently read out of shipped files. It makes the date unverified, which is a different claim, and one we would rather state plainly than round off in either direction.

A rule we try to hold to on this site:

A date repeated by ten outlets that all read the same leaker post is one source, not ten.

Quackadex sourcing policy

If Epic publishes a date, this page changes the same day and the table above gains a confirmed row. If 6 August passes with nothing shipping, that will be recorded here too rather than quietly deleted.

"Gem Hours"

A recurring event called Gem Hours — usually described as a limited window with boosted Gem drop rates — circulates in the same posts as the release date.

If a boosted-rate window does run, it will be visible in-game and we will update this section then.

What we would need to change this page

To move any row in the table from unconfirmed to confirmed, we need one of the following, all of them Epic first-party:

  1. Patch notes or a release blog naming the variant.
  2. An official Fortnite social account announcing it.
  3. An Epic support or help-centre article.
  4. The variant being live and obtainable in-game, verified by us.

Community testing, leaker accounts, wikis and games-media reporting are useful and are how most of us hear about things first. They are not the same category of evidence, and this page keeps them in separate columns on purpose.
