Fortnite Override v42.00: Every Patch Note, Weapon and Sprite
The full v42.00 patch notes for Chapter 7 Season 4 Override: new POIs, weapons, eleven new Sprites, Lobby Hacks, Cheat Codes, Match Overrides, and the ranked reset.
Override is live, and Epic's v42.00 patch notes landed alongside it - the full rundown, not the pre-launch leaks. Three new POIs, three named weapons, eleven new Sprites, three overlapping hack-and-code systems, a ranked reset and a new Quests tab all shipped in one update. Here's what actually changed.

The map
Three new POIs: Stone Sanctum, Green Hill Zone (Sonic's, complete with speed loops) and Reality's Reign, the pipe-and-power-cable hub at the map's center that's replaced the old Zero Point spire. Epic's phrasing keeps Stone Sanctum deliberately vague - "uncover the secrets" - so expect that one to be a slower reveal over the season rather than a day-one open book.
New weapons and items
- Sonic Power Sneakers - charge a grounded Spin Dash or fire off an airborne Spin Attack.
- Mega Buster - Mega Man's arm cannon. Single pellets, a quick-charge shot, or a long-charge explosive, and it fires on the move.
- 8-Bit Shotgun - an automatic shotgun styled like a retro console, cartridge reloads and pixel effects included, with a built-in scoreboard tracking your combo multiplier.
- Midas' Masterpiece - single-fire golden pistol, one-shot headshot potential, sharply limited ammo.
- Tetris Rift - drops Tetris pieces that clear into a large-area heal on a 4-line clear.
- 1-Up Token - respawn with your full inventory after an elimination.
- God Mode Llama - turns you into what Epic calls an "Unstoppable Wrecking Ball." More collabs are promised through the rest of the season on top of this list.
The loot pool also brought back a wave of unvaulted items: Pump Shotgun, Assault Rifle, Ranger Assault Rifle, Drum Gun, Minigun, Tactical Pistol, Dual Pistols, Oni Shotgun, Flare Gun, Bass Boost, Overdrive Grenade and Chug Splash.
Lobby Hacks, Cheat Codes and Match Overrides
Override shipped three separate systems that all lean on the word "hack," and they're easy to mix up:
- Lobby Hacks are code phrases you find outside the game and type into the new Admin Panel on your pre-match lobby screen. Epic's own line: they "hack your game, granting you XP and Sprite Dust, warping reality for your squad, and even dropping rare Sprite variants." We've got the full list of codes going around and what each one unlocks.
- Cheat Codes are found in-match, hidden across the Island - "tucked into POIs and sprayed on walls" - entered as a short button sequence. Interact with one and it frees a Sprite ally on the spot. A new Gizmo, the Cheat Code Locator, points you at the nearest one.
- Match Overrides are the console mechanic. Override Consoles spawn in every match; whoever reaches one first claims it and flips a rule for the entire server. The current pool: Sonic Speed, More XP, Loot Hack, Extra Life, Big Fish, Constant Heal, Infinite Stamina, Headshot, Overshield, Speed Shooter, Big Loot and Power Pickaxe. Claiming a Rare or Mythic one broadcasts your squad's position on the map, so it's a real risk for a real reward, not a free win.
There's a fourth system in the mix too: Loot Hacks, where you spend Sprite Dust to customize what drops for you specifically - hacked items get a chance to appear in Chests you open, and you can reset the configuration for more Dust whenever you want.
Sprites
Season 3's collection is preserved in the new Sprite Garden, launching tomorrow. Season 4 brings eleven new Sprites to find on the Island:
- Klombo - rare, grants random items per level; levels only from consumables that restore Health or Shield.
- Sonic - sprint faster.
- Tails - hover.
- Shadow - auto-reloads your weapons over time, even unequipped.
- Jackrabbit - an extra mid-air jump.
- 8-Bit - guarantees an 8-Bit Shotgun in your first Chest, plus a score multiplier for it.
- Crown - extra Crown Wins after a Victory Royale; levels only by winning matches.
- Adventure - upgrades a random inventory item per level.
- Bush - spawns a Bush on you after a delay; at max level, spawns one on elimination too.
- Jonesy - recovers Health or Shield after taking damage, on a delay.
- Killswitch - improved accuracy while in Hangtime.
A few quality-of-life fixes came with them: you can now tell in-match whether you've already collected a given Sprite, a Sprite's name shows when you're near it, rare Sprites and variants cost less Dust to summon, and the hold time to summon one is shorter.
Two more Gizmos joined the Cheat Code Locator this season: Extraction Accelerator (instantly summons the Extraction Crate at a nearby site) and Llama Supply Drop (calls in a boosted, llama-themed drop at your location), alongside Spicy Taco, a squad-wide heal and speed boost.
Gold Sprite variants and the return of Power Hours start Saturday, August 22, 2-4 PM ET and 9-11 PM ET, with a Portable Extractor, a free 1-Up Token, and better odds at Midas' Masterpiece for anyone who drops in.
Ranked
Ranks reset for the new season. Track rewards: Gold gets a Phantom Spray, Platinum an Override Counter Back Bling, Diamond a Beastly Battle Bus Loading Screen, Elite the Hack 'n Slasher Pickaxe, Champion an Overridden Wrap, and Unreal the Unrealizer Pickaxe. Sprites are now visible in Ranked too - you can collect them and they'll follow you, but their gameplay powers are switched off to keep competitive integrity intact.
Everything else
The Quests tab got rebuilt: existing and new categories live in one scrollable view now, with Collections folded in alongside Characters, Victory Royales and Match Elims instead of sitting in its own tab. Epic notes it's rolling out gradually, so don't panic if yours hasn't changed yet.
Fog of war now lifts per landmark instead of per POI, so your map fills in exactly where you've actually walked. And Tweak Zone - the controller setting that maps your dead zone directly to crosshair sensitivity, added back in Chapter 7 Season 3 - is still there for anyone who hasn't tried it; it's in your Controller settings.
The bug fixes and known issues for v42.00 are a separate list, posted by Epic here.
