Fortnitemares 2026: Everything Else That's New Beyond the Sprites
The Fortnitemares update beyond sprites: Nightmare Neighborhood, FNAF possession, new Overrides, the Oct 8 and Oct 15 dates, and a correction on the Pumpkin Sprite.
Our day-one piece covered the sprites and nothing else, on purpose, because it went up within minutes of the update landing. This is the rest of the October 1 update: the map, the FNAF mechanic, the new Overrides, the dates Epic has put on the calendar, and one correction to what we wrote that morning.

Labels, same as before: confirmed means it is in Epic's own post. Reported means a named outlet said it. Rumor means neither, and we say what would settle it.
The correction: the Pumpkin Sprite became Spooky Dash
In the day-one article we told you not to assume Spooky Dash was Epic's Pumpkin Sprite, because the leaked Pumpkin power was headshot protection and the Spooky Dash card says nothing like that. We were being careful. We were probably also wrong.
The Click reports that the pre-release Pumpkin Sprite is the jack-o'-lantern design that shipped as Spooky Dash, and that the headshot-shield power did not survive to launch. Vice's rundown also calls it the "pumpkin-themed Spooky Dash Sprite". That is reported, not confirmed: Epic's post lists Spooky Dash and never says Pumpkin about a sprite. But two outlets reading it the same way, plus the jack-o'-lantern grin on the art, is enough for us to stop treating Pumpkin as a missing fifth sprite.
Two other day-one hedges resolved too. Epic's post lists The Deer and Dumpster Dive alongside Spooky Dash and Vampire as part of the update, so our "timing unknown" on those two is out of date. And they arrive through Pumpkin Chests: every one is reported to drop a sprite, random which, orange with a purple glow. For what each sprite does and where it stands, use the computed pages for Vampire and Dumpster Dive rather than a number in an article.
Two more sprites are coming, and the dates matter
Epic's post puts two more sprites on October 15: Honey, which sends bees after enemies who damage you, and Obsession, where One Wish Willow helps you collect other sprites. Both dates are confirmed.
Obsession is the interesting design. A sprite that helps you collect sprites, in a game where the collecting is the grind. We have no card wording yet, so we do not know whether it touches drop rates, points you at Pumpkin Chests, or does something smaller. Our guess is smaller. Rumor until a live card says otherwise.
The other date is October 8. Vice's rundown says dataminers expect most Trick or Treat variants to stay unavailable until then. Reported, and Epic has not said it. The same piece reports one exception: if you already mastered the Bounty Hunter Crown sprite, you get the Trick or Treat Crown automatically on October 1.
That makes it the one deadline-flavored item in this whole update. If you hold Bounty Hunter Crown mastery, check your Locker. One account here has already logged the Trick or Treat Crown as owned, which fits the story, but a single account is not proof. If you are mid-grind on that Crown, finishing it is the thing to do this week. Epic's post also lists a Bounty Hunter Power Hours event on October 3, at 2 PM ET and again at 9 PM ET.
The map
Confirmed in Epic's post: Nightmare Neighborhood is a new POI built around Freddy Krueger as a boss. Beat him and you get his claws, Freddy's Nightmare, a teleport-and-slash weapon. Vice adds a Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria with FNAF animatronic bosses, and names Freaky Fields as a new area.
Outlets disagree on what got replaced, and we would not pin it down yet. Beebom says Battlewoods became Nightmare Neighborhood and Latte Landing became Freaky Fields. FRVR says Battlewoods became Gravegate. Both cannot be right about one POI. What would settle it: the map itself, or the in-game POI list. Beebom also reports Wonkeeland got green water and the whole island got darker and foggier. Single source. The key art at least agrees on the mood.
The FNAF mechanic is the real new idea
This is the part we think most people will actually play with. Per Epic's post, you can defeat the FNAF animatronics and possess one, playing as the animatronic. If your health runs out inside it, you get a short invulnerable window before the shell breaks and you drop back to normal.
A second life with a time limit, hanging off a boss you have to beat first. We like it. It rewards committing to the fight instead of third-partying it, which is the opposite of what most boss POIs teach.
Overrides, Loot Hacks and the weapons
Three new Match Override options are in Epic's post: Spooky Sprinter (cloak while sprinting), Berserk (hit harder as your health drops) and Spooky Prop Hunt (disguise yourself as a Halloween prop). Others reportedly trade shields for health and fire pumpkin rockets while you shoot.
Berserk is the one to watch. A damage bonus that scales with how close you are to dead rewards exactly the play that gets you killed.
Loot Hacks per Epic's post: Last Call, Infantry Rifle, Pumpkin Launcher, Light Machine Gun and Slap Candy Corn, plus Loot Hacker sprite variants in the pool. New gear is the Bonerattler SMG, which reveals enemies through walls, and the Snack-O'-Lantern gizmo, which spawns Exotic Candy. Back from the vault: Wood Stake Shotgun, Dual Fiend Hunters, Witch Broom, Heavy Assault Rifle and Quack Snacks. Going in: Drum Gun, Ranger Assault Rifle and Tetris Rift. Rebecca's Guns also got more damage and less spread and recoil on both the SMG and the Assault Rifle.
The Bonerattler is our pick for the weapon people are complaining about by Friday.
Trick or Treat Cheat Codes
Cheat Codes are now Trick or Treat Cheats, which per Epic's post can pay out bonus treats on top of the sprite when you enter one. We have not confirmed in a match what a treat is, so we are not guessing.
Collabs and free stuff
Confirmed: Five Nights at Freddy's is the headline, with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy skins. Epic's post also names Freddy Krueger, Hazbin Hotel and Beetlejuice. Reported by outlets: Slender Man, The Purge, Black Clover, Hollow Knight, Predator and 99 Nights in the Forest, with more skins rolling out across October rather than all at once. That makes any single "what is in the Shop" list stale by next week, so we are not writing one.
The free skin is Jack-A-Nape, reported to need 26 Fortnitemares quests (FRVR).
Modes
Horde Rush (PvE Cube Monster waves) and Blitz Royale (with Ghost Face and the Last Call knife) are in Epic's post. Reload returns on October 8 with a refreshed Nightmare Island and Siphon loot, with Kado Thorne calling the shots. Same date as the Trick or Treat rumor, which is probably not an accident.
The story
Beebom's read of the patch notes quotes the line that Geno slotted a Cursed Cartridge into the Override console, and that is what curses the island. Reported. It keeps Override in charge of the season, which fits what we said that morning: no new generation, no map flip.
What we would do
- Check your Locker today if you ever mastered Bounty Hunter Crown.
- Hold your Trick or Treat expectations until October 8. Do not panic-grind for a tier that may not be live.
- Circle October 15 for Honey and Obsession.
- Smash every Pumpkin Chest you walk past.
Epic's post runs the event to November 1, though some outlets say October 31. We will put an update at the top of this page when we have seen the October 8 and 15 drops go live in a match.
