official season 4 override sprites

Epic's Chapter 7 Season 4 Override trailer (Aug 16) shows three new Sprites and confirms collecting continues. What the video shows, what the comments think, and what to do before Thursday.

Epic dropped the Chapter 7 Season 4: Override trailer at noon ET on Sunday, August 16, and the internet did what it does with a Sonic reveal. But if you collect, the loud part is not the part that matters. Buried between Joker's shotgun and Eggman's walk-in is the answer to the one question this site has been dodging for a month: Sprites are not going anywhere. They are getting a second generation.

What the trailer actually shows

Ninety-nine seconds, so here is the whole thing in order, from watching it frame by frame:

Jonesy gets pulled into a neon arcade-city, disintegrating pixel by pixel. Crash Bandicoot, a huge OVERRIDE marquee, and a golden 1UP coin. Then Sonic in his classic hand-drawn pose, and we are in a Green Hill Zone biome: checkerboard cliffs, loop-de-loops, palm trees, a running player leaving a Sonic dust trail. Joker from Persona 5 fires a shotgun there while a Tails Sprite hovers over his shoulder. A new map from above, mostly green with a red-orange band across the top. A spire where the Zero Point used to be. A golden game cartridge dropping in like a supply drop. A fighting-game "VS" splash as two fighters square off outside a temple POI. Mega Man. A Tetris block wall in a suburb. Jonesy sprinting through the temple with a small pink Klombo Sprite bobbing after him. Someone riding a hoverboard with a green rabbit Sprite in a red bandana clinging on, over a floor stencilled ROBOTNIK, with a SCORE and COMBO readout on the HUD. Then Geno with a boss health bar, Eggman strolling up behind him, and Jonesy waking up in a hospital bed next to Peely.

Confirmed from the trailer and Epic's description: the season starts August 20, the villain is Geno, and the collab lineup is Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Eggman, Joker, Mega Man, Crash, Spyro, Tetris and Pac-Man. Beebom's rundown adds Mortal Kombat fighters and Male V from Cyberpunk, and reads the map images as six new POIs including a Green Hill Zone. Geoff Keighley posted the trailer minutes after it went up, which tells you who Epic wants watching.

The sprite part

Three Sprites are visible in the trailer, and none of them exist today:

Beebom's writeup names more: "Killswitch, Sonic, Tails, Jazz Jackrabbit, Klombo Sprite, Bush Ranger, and more." Treat the ones not visible in the trailer as outlet-reported until Epic prints a list.

So, two things we now know that we did not know Saturday. Sprites continue into Season 4. And new ones are coming, at least some of them collab and legacy characters rather than more variants of the current roster.

What we still do not know, and neither does anyone in the 7,500 comments: whether the Sprites you have now carry over. "So are the current sprites staying or nah?" got two likes and no answer. Sprites launched as a Season 3 feature, and nothing in the trailer confirms or rules out a reset. Which brings us to the honest advice.

What to do before Thursday

Master what you have. Mastered Sprites are account-permanent - the Mastery Pod does not care what season it is - and it is the one thing you can lock in regardless of how the carry-over question lands. This is the week to do it: Sprites level twice as fast, resummons are free, and Gem Hours run from Wednesday 9 AM ET through the end of the season. Our Sprite Spree Week schedule has the day-by-day, and the Special Hours panel on the home page shows it in your local time.

Check your dex against the schedule, hit the days that fill your gaps, and mastery-grind the rest. If new Sprites are being added, your collection is about to get bigger, not reset. Quackadex will have them the moment they land.

How the trailer went down

Very well, with two exceptions. In the first day: 664,000 views, 69,600 likes, 7,500 comments. "Peak" appears 340 times in the comments; "mid" 22. Sonic dominates (616 mentions), then Crash, the Klombo Sprite, and Jonesy finally waking up after three years in the same outfit ("bro finally woke up," 1,000 likes).

The exceptions. First, the deer. A stag-headed figure walks with Geno's crew at 1:18, and the community has decided it is the deer from 99 Nights in the Forest, the Roblox survival game. "That deer thinks he's part of the team" is the top comment on the whole video at 6,800 likes, and roughly 300 more comments pile on. The complaint is not really about the deer. It is that Fortnite's gaming-legends season let a Roblox character in the door before Pac-Man got a proper shot, and Minecraft is nowhere. Second, the Battle Pass. Around 260 comments argue about it, and the angry ones ("worst battlepass so far, my hype for this season is dead") are reacting to leaks, not the trailer - Epic has not shown the pass. Judge that one when it is real.

Our read: this is the most confident season trailer Epic has cut in a while, and for collectors it is quietly the most important one since Sprites launched. Sonic sells the season. Tails, Klombo and a 32-year-old rabbit tell you the collecting is not over.
